HBO’s Watchmen TV series will begin shooting in March 2018.

Word has leaked that Damon Lindelof’s HBO series Watchmen will begin production in March 2018. There is still no word on casting announcements, episodes or premiere date. People speculate we can hear casting announcements in the coming months. HBO has yet to order the project to series. However, they did request additional script episodes to the pilot some months ago.

An HBO series will be interesting, given we already have the somewhat divisive film from director Zack Snyder and his 2009 Watchmen film. There are accusations of too much being cut from the source material. There also some who feel the film was not faithful to the source material. Then you of course have just common critiques of Snyder’s style which some do not particularly care for. Now some fans have hope under an HBO series, which can retain that hard rating and allow the story to breathe outside of a two-plus hour runtime.

Lindelof presided over shows like Lost and The Leftovers. The man has a lot of respect for the source material. He refers to Alan Moore as one of the best comic book writers. His particular take on the material should be fascinating given his words some time ago:

"“And you can’t be dangerous for dangerous’ sake, but the reason that I’m doing this is these are dangerous times and we need dangerous shows. What we think about superheroes is wrong. I love the Marvel movies and we saw Justice League this morning and I’m all for Wonder Woman and Batman and I grew up on these characters, but we should not trust people who put on masks and say that they are looking out for us. If you hide your face, you are up to no good.”"

I guess in time we shall see and hope for more news on this project.
