10. War Machine – Iron Man 281-283

I know this post is all about Iron Man and we’re going to get to him, but you can’t ignore James Rhodes and the War Machine armor. Rhodey has stood in for Tony as Iron Man several times and has been wearing armor for almost as long as Stark. The debut of the War Machine armor actually took place because Tony Stark was injured and somewhat hampered by his injuries. He created a suit with much more firepower and heavier armor to make up for his slower abilities.

This War Machine armor was eventually passed down to Rhodey and became a major part of his identity as a superhero. The other people in Tony’s life that have worn the armor are a huge part of his story and no one maintains that title more than Rhodes. The War Machine armor has been included in almost every Marvel movie that has been about Iron Man. He is kind of the heavier and louder sidekick to Tony Stark.
