Will Riverdale air a new episode tonight, December 20?

Riverdale hit its midseason finale on Wednesday, Dec. 13. Will that mean a new episode arrives soon?

For most of the fall, Wednesday nights were for Riverdale on The CW. It was for the first half of season 2, which followed the hunt for the Black Hood, the man who terrorized the town of Riverdale from the season 1 finale to the midseason finale. The latter aired on Dec. 13, and featured events that shook up the show. Spoilers from this episode follow.

The journey towards the Black Hood’s identity culminated in “Chapter 22: Silent Night, Deadly Night.” It was believed he captured Joseph Conway/Svenson, the janitor from Riverdale High School. Archie and Betty went to the Devil’s Hand to potentially find evidence of this, only to discover an empty casket, inside a grave, for Conway/Svenson. That’s when the Hood appeared, pointing a gun at Betty’s head, and for her to bury Archie in the casket.

When this didn’t work, Betty hit the Black Hood in the head and he ran away. They chased him down, only for Archie to pull out a gun on the assailant. However, Sheriff Keller was already there and shot the man, killing him instantly. Upon removing the hood, it was revealed to be Conway/Svenson.

In the final moments of the episode, we saw Betty refuse to burn the hood that was from Archie’s locker. How will that play into the show’s return?

Unfortunately, we won’t find this out until Wednesday, Jan. 17 at 8:00 p.m. ET on The CW. That’s still one month away, as Riverdale only began its midseason break last week. With the holidays in between, though, it should mean a swift month off before the show returns for the second half of season 2.
