6. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
This year also saw the return of our favorite a-holes. The Guardians of the Galaxy were practically unknown to the moviegoing audience. The success of the 2014 film established the Guardians as cinematic household names. No longer were Iron Man, Captain America and the other Avengers the MCU’s top-tier heroes. We now had Star-Lord, Groot, Gamora, Rocket and Drax conquering our hearts. And indeed, conquer our hearts they did once more in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
The sequel saw the return of the Guardians just a couple months after their last adventure. Employed by the race of beings called the Sovereign, the Guardians fought off a giant space monster and later fought against the Sovereign themselves. Their adventure took them to the presence of Ego, played by Kurt Russell, who was revealed to be a Celestial and Star-Lord’s dad. From there, the Guardians embark on a journey that shows them the value of family, a journey that once again prompts them to save the galaxy.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was just on par with the original film. While it wasn’t better than the original, it wasn’t the worst, either. The visuals were fantastic and the music was purely awesome. Okay, maybe Vol. 2 was just a tad better than Vol. 1.
