The annual Doctor Who Christmas special gave fans the chance to say goodbye to one Doctor and hello to a new one. Here are the best fan reactions paying tribute and saying hello.
The Doctor Who Christmas special “Twice Upon A Time” was the swan song for Peter Capaldi’s version of The Doctor and fans showed up to say goodbye. And they were also here to say hello to the new incarnation of the Doctor, Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor.
Jodie Whittaker is the first woman ever to play the iconic Doctor Who and fans were excited to welcome her into the canon. While the choice to cast the Doctor as a woman has been controversial for some many fans are over the moon at the first female Doctor taking over the TARDIS.
Peter Capaldi’s Doctor had a darker perspective than some of the previous versions of the Doctor and fans loved it. Usually when a new Doctor takes over it takes fans awhile to warm up to the new actor taking the role. But fans on social media are clearly excited for Jodie to take over the role.
The new series won’t debut until the spring of 2018 and they only got to see the new Doctor for a couple of minutes at the end of the Christmas special. But social media was still humming with emotional tributes to Peter Capaldi and warm messages of welcome for Jodie Whittaker. Here are some of the best fan reactions to the Doctor Who Christmas special and the start of a new era for the show:

Overall this was a gorgeous piece of DW history. When you add to the show in this way, giving a glimpse of the old to people who have never seen it... it sparks the imagination. Hope everyone goes out and starts watching Classic Who episodes!!! #DoctorWho
