Star Wars: The Last Jedi — Mark Hamill yanks criticism, praises movie
Mark Hamill criticized Star Wars: The Last Jedi, shortly after its release. Now, the veteran actor pulled his negative comments and praised the movie.
Mark Hamill reprised his role as Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, taking on an older version of this beloved character. He departed to the remote island of Ahch-To and remained there for the movie’s entirety, along with training Rey and distracting Kylo Ren, in order for the Resistance to escape the First Order.
It wasn’t the physical version of Skywalker that helped, however, as a Force version distracted Ren. This overuse of power caused one of the last Jedi to vanish, presumably dead.
This use of Skywalker drew media criticism from Hamill, who said he had trouble, with director Rian Johnson’s version of the character, according to The Stupendous Wave. However, Hamill retracted these claims, with a tweet that called Star Wars: The Last Jedi “all-time GREAT,” while regretting his public criticisms of the movie.
As seen in the tweet’s responses, Hamill received nearly 5,000 replies and over 100,000 combined retweets and likes. So, the public support was there for his comments, even as The Last Jedi remains a polarizing movie for the public.
Given The Last Jedi’s reactions, some fans may agree with Hamill’s original comments. Either way, most of this movie’s topics remain divisive, leading to a debate that could continue for years to come.
Hamill’s character was the second legendary Star Wars figure to be killed off in this trilogy. Harrison Ford’s Han Solo died in The Force Awakens, when Kylo stabbed him. Carrie Fisher passed away after The Last Jedi wrapped production, so in Episode IX, none of the original three will be involved, barring a Force Ghost scene or CGI creation.
