2. Big Trouble in Little China/Escape from New York #4-6
There is only one word to describe this crossover: fun. Both of Kurt Russell’s characters from John Carpenter films team up in an incredible adventure. Just how does the ultimate soldier unite with the perfect idiot? With a bit of a magic and a lot of imagination! When a spell goes wrong, both Jack Burton and his nemesis Lo Pan are transported to the post-apocalypse of Snake Plissken! Even worse, they have to contend with an entire army of parallel universe versions of Snake!
Written by Greg Pak and drawn by Daniel Bayliss, the series wrapped around spring 2017. Its finale involved not only a literal giant snake, but a magical energy-beam spewing guitar! John Carpenter has gone on to once again co-write a Big Trouble comic for BOOM! Studios, yet it’s this series which may prove to be a classic. The one-liners are fast and furious, and the visual gags are as fast paced as the action. It’s among the most entertaining comic books of all of 2017!
In fact, the only downside is that no sequel has been announced. This is mind boggling as the first issue sold hundreds of thousands of copies! Pak is busy with Marvel Comics like Totally Awesome Hulk and Weapon X, but in truth, this was easily his best product of the year. It is impossible to put any issue down without having a smile on your face. Like good ol’ Jack Burton says, get the most for your four bucks!
