New Year, New Me: Marvel characters that switched sides
By Mark Lynch
Emma Frost
Emma Frost is the former White Queen of the Hellfire Club. A group of some of the worst of the worst. Rich socialites who have spent their time controlling events behind the scenes. The best way to describe what Emma represents is a quote from Kitty Pryde in Astonishing X-Men issue 2, “The first time I met the X-Men, the first DAY…they were ambushed. And Captured. And caged. By you. I learned more about good and evil in that one day than I have before or since. I was THIRTEEN.”
Emma Frost went on to redeem herself in a big way. But it wasn’t just her time as an X-Man. She was a teacher. She spent countless hours teaching young mutants how to use their powers. But more importantly, she learned from them as well. Emma learned how to become a better person. She may always be a stuck up b-word, but she seems to have a warm heart under all that cold diamond skin. Even when she waged war on the Inhumans she did it for a noble reason.
Deadpool
Deadpool is not a good person. Let’s just call it like it is. But once upon a time, he was worse than he is now. Deadpool used to take kill contracts from people if they paid. He’s also said, “If you pay me enough I’ll kill babies.” Deadpool was a despicable person of the highest order. But thanks to a lot of help from Theresa Cassidy and Cable, Deadpool changed his ways…sort of.

Deadpool will never be a hero. He would rather kill and take the easy way out a lot of the time. That’s not to say he won’t do things the hard way, but something in him always ends with him killing. Most recently, he killed some transit workers because he’s currently squatting in the subway. But if it wasn’t for Deadpool constantly being used by people he respects, Deadpool would be a hero. Just look at him during his time as an Avenger. He was a model Avenger and teammate. Deadpool wants to be a good person. Too bad he is destined to have one of the worst lives ever.
