The CW’s Arrowverse shows delivered some great moments in 2017, but which ones were the best from each show?

It’s fair to say that The CW is getting a lot right when it comes to their DC superhero properties; unlike the polarising reaction to the DCEU, it seems that that majority of fans are enjoying what The CW is doing. Some would argue that The CW has managed to create a better Justice League than Warner Bros., particularly when you look at the Arrowverse’s highly-praised crossover, “Crisis on Earth-X.”

It’s no mean feat balancing four separate superhero shows, but the Arrowverse continues to deliver some impressive superhero moments, particularly when you consider that they’re working on a much smaller budget than the movies. But which moments were the best from last year?

(I’m picking two moments from each show, one from the end of last season, one from the current season. Also, I’m discounting “Crisis on Earth-X” because it was so good!)

Arrow

1. Prometheus breaks Oliver

If any of the Arrowverse shows had more to prove than the others, it was Arrow. The show that started this superhero universe didn’t have the best of fourth seasons (to say the least) and was desperate for a return to form. Thankfully, season 5 delivered that and then some.

In part, this was thanks to an excellent villain in Prometheus who had developed an intricate plan to grind Oliver down mentally. No scene demonstrated this more than when Prometheus finally broke Oliver after torturing him for days. All the while, this is mirrored with the flashback scenes showing Ollie in Russia brutally battling Konstantin Kovar, showing just how far he fell into darkness. But it’s the end of the scene that’s truly shocking:

2. Oliver returns as the Green Arrow

A lot of Arrow season 6 has featured Ollie battling over whether or not he should remain the Green Arrow, particularly with William to look after. As a result of this, he decided to step down from his life as a vigilante and ask his loyal friend, John Diggle to take up the mantle.

Unbeknownst to Oliver however, Diggle had been compromised as he had been hit with some shrapnel in an explosion on Lian Yu. Digg hid this from the team and tried to treat his nerve damage with experimental drugs, but after Team Arrow had stopped the man responsible for creating the drugs, he had to come clean.

Oliver found out about this and chastised his friend for putting the team at risk (which was one of Stephen Amell’s favorite-ever scenes in Arrow). Later in the same episode, Ollie returned to his friend to apologize when he realized that he had asked Diggle to put William before his own family — shortly after, Ollie returned to the bunker to become the Green Arrow once more.
