4. Erik Killmonger

He may look reckless, but he’s no idiot. He has a Ph.D. in Engineering and an MBA at M.I.T. Killmonger. So, on top of being a great fighter, he’s also extremely intelligent. Erik Killmonger is also the only person T’Challa has never beaten in a one on one fight. In one of Killmonger’s fights with T’Challa, he challenged T’Challa to trial that would determine whether T’Challa would remain king of Wakanda. T’Challa lost and Killomonger was ruler for a time. Kilmonger ended up losing the throne the way a lot of villains lose battles; hubris. Killmonger tried eating the heart-shaped herb that gives the Black Panther their powers. But these powers are only given to those who are worthy. Killmonger was not worthy. Eating that herb left Killmonger in a coma. If not for his arrogance Killomonger might have been ruler a lot longer than he was.

Killmonger made one more attempt at power when he hooked up with the American Government. The U.S. Government hoped that Killmonger would kill T’Challa and that his death would give them their opportunity to move in, invade Wakanda, and take their resources by force. Just as it looked like Killmonger would beat T’Challa again, Monica Rambeau killed him.

I don’t know what it is about Killmonger, but T’Challa can’t beat him. Maybe it’s the rage he has for T’Challa’s father. He blames T’Chaka’s “weakness” for his father’s death. Maybe this fuels Killmonger and gives him the edge he needs. Unless Killmonger comes back to life (which is possible) Erik Killmonger will have died being the only opponent T’Challa has never beaten.
