2. An R rated Suicide Squad 2

We suspected that somewhere down the line that the WB would make an R-rated DCEU film after hiring Walter Hamada.  Now that Hamada has  O’Connor and De Luca ready to take on SS2, there’s a chance we may get an R-rated film sooner rather than later. The hiring of De Luca points directly towards that since he was part of the original rated R superhero, Blade as producer of Blade II.  In fact, from top to bottom the most recent success of Hamada, O’Connor, and De Luca have come in the form of rated R films.  For Hamada, it was Annabelle Creations, for O’Connor it was The Accountant, and De Luca, it was Fifty Shades of Grey.  With his history plus Fox’s Deadpool and Logan we’ve learned that if given the right story, fans will flock to theaters to see a  mass murdering, foul mouth superhero. And Suicide Squad has the characters to do so.

For starters, you have Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), whose comic book character has done her fair share of killing. In fact, in the original Suicide Squad, it was also implied that she may have been an accomplice the Joker killing Jason Todd. Then there’s Deadshot (Will Smith), who is an assassin with a body as long as the Manhattan. The same can be said for Killer Croc who was played by the great, and underutilized Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje and Jai Courtney’s Captain Boomerang, and El Diablo who was played by Jay Hernandez.

With so many characters and great actors, in addition to the people behind the scenes there’s a great opportunity for O’Connor’s Suicide Squad 2 to be rated R. Plus, he’d have the support of Warner Bros. Back in June 2017 during an exclusive interview with Variety, WB executive Toby Emmerich expressed his interest in wanting to make an R-rated superhero film.

"“I would be surprised if we didn’t at some point make an R-rated DC movie,”"

Since the idea of an R-rated superhero film is no longer looked upon as something that’ll result in finical disaster it’ll be interesting to see SS2 as one. With the staff they have and the many comic book stories plus the cast, it’s easy to see the DCEU take a further step towards the dark side. After all, they will have the WB supports and I’m sure many fans as well.  No matter what rating the film ultimately gets wouldn’t matter much if the focus isn’t on the characters.
