With the X-Men franchise about to join forces with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, let’s rank all 10 X-Men movies to date.

After the success of X-Men: The Animated Series in the ’90’s that introduced the X-Men to the world, 20th Century Fox produced the first live-action X-Men movie at the turn of the century. Before this, superhero movies were considered a joke (with a few exceptions such as the first two Superman and Batman movies) and the general audience wouldn’t take them seriously.

It was a huge risk for Fox to bring this superhero team to the big screen, but the film was praised by critics and audience members alike. With a $75 million budget, X-Men went on to make $157 million domestically and $296 million domestically. The film’s success marked the beginning of a franchise that has produced 10 films over the course of 17 years.

While some of the X-Men movies have been fantastic, there are certainly some stinkers as well. So, let’s rank all 10 of the X-Men films and see which ones are truly the best.

10. X-Men Origins: Wolverine

In 2009, 20th Century Fox decided to give Wolverine his own solo movie. While they proved later on down the line that the titular character could hold his own film, they completely dropped the ball with this one. In fact, X-Men Origins: Wolverine has to be one of the worst comic book films to date. There are some redeeming qualities to be found in this film. The film starts off strong as it shows the origin of Logan and features a really awesome war sequence.

From there, everything goes downhill and the only thing keeping you from gauging your eyes out is Hugh Jackman, who once again gives a compelling performance as the Wolverine. The same can’t be said for the rest of the cast, however, as so many fan-favorite characters are ruined in a blink of an eye such as Deadpool, Gambit, Sabretooth and Silver Fox. It also doesn’t help that this movie dons a horribly-written script and horrible action sequences accompanied by atrocious visual effects.
