9. X-Men: The Last Stand

The third time is the charm, except in Hollywood as the third movie usually finishes off the trilogy in an underwhelming way. The first two installments in the X-Men saga were some of the best superhero movies ever at its time and in 2006, expectations were sky-high for the final installment. Besides some decent action sequences and cool moments sprinkled throughout the film, X-Men: The Last Stand was a monumental disappointment.

Fans were expecting an epic conclusion with the adaptation of the Dark Phoenix Saga storyline from the X-Men comics that was teased in X2. Instead of focusing on the plot, writing or even character development, this movie was purely a popcorn flick – and it barely succeeded on that level. X-Men: The Last Stand is action-packed and exciting at its best, but there’s never anything at stake.
