DCEU: If Harley Quinn will be in 3 movies, Birds of Prey should be left out
Harley Quinn is set to appear in a trifecta of DCEU films. While fans of the Crown Princess of Crime may be excited to see Margot Robbie reprise her role one film she shouldn’t appear in is Birds of Prey.
A while back, after Margot Robbie’s performance as Harley Quinn took the DCEU by storm — it appeared that Warner Bros is looking to capitalize off of her popularity. In 2016, Collider announced that Margot Robbie would star and produce a Birds of Prey film. However, after the initial reports it seemed that Birds of Prey was off the books and replaced by Gotham City Sirens. Now, at least according to The Wrap, Birds of Prey may be part of the three films that Margot Robbie is set to appear in.
"“Insiders say Robbie has become something of a DC Comics expert since joining Suicide Squad, and has taken an interest in Birds of Prey. The film is not a Quinn solo movie, but would feature multiple female superheroes — and possibly villains — in the DC Comics universe.”"
If the rumors are about Birds of Prey are true about Margot Robbie producing —Harley Quinn shouldn’t be part of it the film. Robbie, because of her newfound comic book expertise and her willingness to commit should be on board with bringing Birds of Prey to the silver screen. However, that doesn’t mean Harley Quinn has to be part of it and here’s why.
3. There’s such a thing as too much Harley Quinn
As much as we all loved seeing Margot Robbie play Harley Quinn, there is such a thing as over exposure. As it stands, Harley Quinn is expected to be in an additional three more DCEU films after her debut in Suicide Squad. Robbie’s performance was memorable despite the not so pleasant flashback sequences and the scarce manner in which her counterpart was used. Nevertheless, Robbie owned the role and proved to be the perfect choice (something fans knew since Wolf of Wall Street).
Because of Robbie’s memorable performance the studio has opted to capitalize off of Harley Quinn’s popularity. So, the announcement was made and Harley will be all over the DCEU. Suicide Squad 2 has not only been green-lit, but the early stages of filming have already begun. Following Suicide Squad the announcement that the DC Extended Universe will bring a Joker and Harley Quinn movie to the big screen. While a Joker and Harley Quinn may be a bit presumptuous on the part of Warner Bros, at least it makes sense as part of her story. However, there’s no reason to force Harley Quinn in a movie that has little to nothing to do with her character.
