5 ideas for stand-alone Star Wars films
By Barlow Adams
“Adventure. Excitement. A Jedi craves not these things.”–Yoda
While stand-alone films about Boba Fett, Darth Vader, Obi Wan, and even Lando, have been churing around the rumor mill forever, I propose a different subject if the powers-that-be choose another Solo-esque spotlight film: Yoda. For a being with a 900 year lifespan, we know very little about the enigmatic, green Grand Master.
"“So he’s a mystery character, he’s a magical character. He has no background. He comes and he goes. He’s the subversive secret mysterious stranger that enters the film and then exits at the end.“―George Lucas, about Yoda’s background"
Easily ranking among the most popular characters of the first two trilogies, an exploration of Yoda’s past would offer a treasure trove of potential storylines.
What was a young Yoda like? How did he learn his mastery of The Force? Exactly who and what is Yoda? What is the story of his people?
Surely a character as important and enduring as Yoda must have a backstory equally as impressive. What fires forged the being that would stand for nearly a millennia as the preeminent teacher and greatest champion of the light side of The Force?
In addition, for all the numerous species of aliens in the Star Wards Universe, the movies have, so far, revolved around mostly human main characters, with the prevailing thought being that a non-human MC would be too difficult for audiences to relate to and would fail to drum up sufficient fan support.
It’s a safe bet that the beloved Yoda would be an exception to this line of thinking.
