Six superhero films have trailers out. Which one ranks as the best?

2018 is a great reminder of how far superhero films have come in the last decade. Not too long ago, the superhero movie genre was largely frowned upon by audiences, and blockbusters centered around colorful crimefighters weren’t guaranteed successes. In fact, the majority were considered gambles.

As time passed, things started to change, mainly thanks to continuous hits like Iron Man and The Dark Knight. Nowadays, live-action superhero adventures are complete powerhouses. Audiences flock to see them, and as a result, the volume of content we’ve gotten in recent years has greatly increased.

Today, we live in an era where an average of six superhero films are released every year. As mentioned above, 2018 will be a particularly packed year for the comic book (and sci-fi) genre. Following the release of Black Panther, audiences will get to experience six exciting blockbusters: Avengers: Infinity War, Solo: A Star Wars Story, Deadpool 2, The Incredibles 2, Ant-Man & The Wasp and Venom.

In what’s surely been an exciting time for geeks, these past few months have been filled with first trailers for each of the films listed above. Given the short timespan between the release of each trailer, I thought it’d be appropriate to have some fun and rank all six of them. So, without further delays, let’s begin:

6. The Incredibles 2

The Incredibles was a refreshing take on the superhero genre. Audiences embraced the movie, and were eager to see the next chapter in the life of the Parr family. 14 years later, The Incredibles 2 is finally coming our way. A few months after the release of a short teaser starring Bob Parr and Jack Jack, Disney treated fans with the film’s first trailer.

Marketing a sequel to a 14-year-old film is tricky. The movie has to successfully sell itself to a new type of audience, and as proven by long-gestating blockbusters like Blade Runner 2049 and Independence Day: Resurgence, that’s a tough thing to do. Fortunately, the Incredibles 2 trailer pleased longtime fans of the franchise, while also presenting its concept in an accessible manner for new audiences.

Another plus for the trailer was its variety of hilarious moments. There were quite a few laugh-out-loud scenes, such as Mr. Incredible getting sucked into the Underminer’s vacuum machine in the midst of giving a passionate speech, and Bob being awakened by Jack Jack while reading a bedtime story.

Now, if this trailer was so great, you’re probably wondering why it’s at the bottom of the list. That’s because, despite all of its successes, it felt a bit choppy at times. That may sound like a strange complaint, but the editing could have benefitted from a more organic flow. Of course, that doesn’t mean the trailer was bad. However, in a list ranking amazing trailers, there’s bound to be one that’s not quite as awesome as the rest.
