What did not

One thing that should be a staple in action movies is a classic or memorable fight scene. There were no memorable fight sequences in Captain America: First Avenger.  It was weird revisiting this movie and not realizing the lack of unforgettable action. Steve Rogers chasing the Hydra agent was the closest thing to a memorable action sequence. Cap also didn’t throw his shield that much either and that’s a standard Captain America move.

The next movie in the Captain America series was Captain America: Winter Soldier. This is where we find out that Bucky Barnes didn’t die in Captain America: First Avenger. He was turned into the Winter Soldier. Fans of the comic book knew why this was important. Unfortunately, there wasn’t enough of a reason for us to care about Bucky in Captain America: First Avenger to set up for the next Captain America movie.

Bucky helped Steve out a lot when they were kids, but not seeing a lot him made his death seem like an afterthought. Bucky died and it seemed like they immediately went on to the next scene. There was no room for the audience to care that Bucky died. The sentimental moment came after he died. While mourning the death of his friend, Steve was drinking drinking and realized he couldn’t get drunk. The Super Soldier Serum sped his metabolism. This is what made Bucky’s death so important. It would have been nice to see more of Bucky to give his death and rebirth more meaning.
