Nov. 5, 2021: Doctor Strange 2

Marvel waited a while for Benedict Cumberbatch, who took the Doctor Strange role in the movie of the same name in 2016. The wait was worth it, though, as Kevin Feige found his desired actor, and the studio made over $600 million on a character that did not have the same notoriety as Captain America, Iron Man or Thor.

Doctor Strange appeared in Thor: Ragnarok and will return in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4. After that, this character’s status remains a mystery, since Marvel never confirmed a sequel to Doctor Strange.

It’s possible Stephen Strange fails to make it out of Infinity War and Avengers 4 alive. However, if he does, then there’s a ready-made story, given the end-credits scene of Doctor Strange when Karl Mordo took a villainous turn and set himself up to challenge Stephen, whenever that may be.

2021 marks five years after Doctor Strange hit theaters, which seems like an eternity for the MCU. Maybe it’s set up for 2020, but with 2019 full and a possibly-but-maybe-not opening in the former, it leaves 2021 wide open. Plus, the lack of news around a sequel does not help its case to for a 2020 release, either.
