5 Marvel Comics Women who are more than physically tough
By Mark Lynch
Marvel Comics features some of the strongest female superheroes. Who are among the best?
May is Women’s History Month. It’s a month where we celebrate the amazing women who have accomplished a lot despite being oppressed. Women are responsible for technological advances that helped to get the United States into space, Maya Angelou is regarded as one of the greatest poets and writers of all time, and Joan of Arc at the age of 17 fought for her country despite not being wanted. This is no different in comic books, including from Marvel.
For example, Wonder Woman has been a prime example. She was more than just a strong woman physically. Wonder Woman represents power of personality as well. She never backs down from speaking her mind, stands up for what she believes in, and defends the people who can’t defend themselves. It’s things like this that makes her great. Anyone can be strong physically, but not everyone has integrity. Here are five examples of women who show strength of character.

5. Blink of the Exiles
Blink goes under the radar due to The Exiles not being well known to the public. Comic book fans loved The Exiles. It couldn’t have reached 100 issues on its first run without the support from consumers. Also, if Blink wasn’t popular she wouldn’t be front and center in the new Exiles comic coming out in April. What makes Blink so special is her ability to be a leader of people she’s never met.
Blink was born and raised in an apocalyptic era where she, as she put it, didn’t have toilet paper sometimes. This would normally make a person angry and bitter. Not Blink. Blink was a loving and caring hero. This world hardened her but sharpen her skills and made her a better leader.
She has put herself in a position to die if to save the multiverse and, on a lesser level, her friends. She’s taken on cosmic entities, beings with god-like powers, and actual deities. You can see Blink in Gifted and X-Men: Days of the Future Past. While she’s power in both of these projects, this isn’t close to what she is capable of.
