3. Layla Miller
When People ask me who I think the toughest female in comic books is, I don’t go with the obvious choices. People will say Wonder Woman, Rogue, Black Canary, and a plethora of other amazing female characters. Physical strength and fighting prowess is an attribute that should be commended. I rank mental toughness and fortitude higher than the ability to punch someone in the face. Layla Miller has mental toughness in spades.
Layla Miller was charged with keeping things in order before her age hit double digits. She was given the knowledge of the future and how things would play out and had to make sure things happened the way they were supposed to. This meant that she had to let terrible things happen. Layla had to let Siryn get beaten and then incapacitated by a mad man and even let people die. Maybe worse for her is knowing that she was going to have her head shaved and tortured.
Layla knew that she was going to have to go to a future where even saying the word mutant could get you in trouble. She also knew that she was going to have to grow up in a hellish timeline. The one-time Layla strayed away from her path, she was punished. She had to watch the man she loved (Jamie Madrox) get killed. The one time she decided to show compassion and she was brutally punished. This is what makes Layla Miller the toughest woman in comic books.
