The Flash season 4: Ranking its 10 best moments so far
6. Barry is sentenced to life in prison
Based on the iconic “Trail of The Flash” arc from the comics, the tenth episode of season 4 saw Barry Allen wrongfully accused of murdering Clifford DeVoe. While the episode contained moments of hope, Barry’s secret life as The Flash rendered him unable to explain his constant absences from work. And this, along with his departure from the courthouse to save Central City, ended up making him look guilty in the eyes of the Judge and the jury.
While Barry was busy saving Central City from a nuclear fallout, the jury was busy finding him guilty of murder. And in one of the show’s most harrowing scenes, the Judge berated Barry’s lack of concern for human life at the same time that Captain Singh praised The Flash’s selflessness and heroics.
It was impossible to feel any sorrier for Barry than we already did, but this scene made sure that we did. He couldn’t tell anyone why he was being framed, he couldn’t tell anyone why he was constantly late to work and he couldn’t tell anyone why he ran out of the courthouse. It was The Flash’s selflessness that ultimately made him look guiltier.
The only comfort we could take from the whole situation was that Barry ended up in the same cell that his father, Henry Allen resided in when he too was wrongly accused of murder. And although we still felt for Barry, it was good to know that his dad was with him.
Thankfully, Ralph Dibny made sure that his incarceration was only temporary.
