DC Comics are filled with heroes, most of them, however, happen to be men. Still, there are a number of female heroes who have dominated the comics.

The leery days of men dominating the comic strip are slowing being left in the past. Over the years DC Comics has pushed a number of female characters to the forefront. In fact, arguably DC’s most popular is a female, Harley Quinn. The Clow Princess of Crime has seen an increase in comic sales thanks to DC allowing her to develop into a character of her own. However, Harley is just now coming into her own as a hero, and before she could be named one of DC’s greatest there are 10 other heroes who have earned that title.

10. Hawkgirl

Kicking off the list is a heroine who has literally withstood the test of time. Cursed by Hath-Set to die at the pinnacle of love and reincarnate forever with one of Hawkgirl ’s most well-known rendition being Shayera Hol.  Shayera and her husband Katar Hol ran a museum inside of Midway City, though that was just a cover. The Hol’s were really officers from the planet Thanaga who stayed on earth after capturing a fugitive from their home planet.

Although Hawkgirl is tied to Hawkman for all eternity she’s a hero in her right. Another popular version where she was most independent was Kendra Saunders from the New 52. This version of Hawkgirl was featured on Legends of Tomorrow and played by Ciara Renee. Hawkgirl’s popularity comes from her being featured as a member of Earth-2 Justice League Society.
