5. Black Canary

Black Canary is a DC namesake who has been around since the early days of DC Comics Dinah Laurel Lance is an absolute beast. She’s a driven woman who uses law by day to protect citizens from an unfair judicial system. By night, she dawns her mask and tights as the sonic screaming vigilante, Black Canary. She’s worked alongside the Justice League of America and can be seen arm in arm with another superhero, Green Arrow. Like another heroine on her list, however, her most notable adventures came from her time as a member of Oracle’s Birds of Prey.

Dinah is more than just a hero, she’s an educator who has mastered forms of martial arts and teaches up and coming superheroes. Her popularity has lead DC to depict her on a couple of occasions. In the 2002 WB TV series, Birds of Prey, Black Canary was played by actress Rachel Skarsten. Some years later on in Smallville actress Alaina Huffman would dawn the black suit and mask.

However, just like in the comics, the convoluted history of the hero from another world came to play in CW’s Arrow. In the Arrowverse there are three women who have either used the Canary Cry or used the Black Canary moniker — actresses Katie Cassidy, Caity Lotz, and Juliana Harkavy were all renditions of her. Hopefully, with her popularity along with the two other DC heroes on the list we’ll get a Birds of Prey film soon.
