Season 2 of Jessica Jones arrived, with plenty of positive and negative moments to dive in to.

Season 2 of Jessica Jones is here! The critics have reviewed it and it’s received good praise. 88 percent from Rotten Tomatoes and 8.1 from IMDB. So it’s yet another success for Marvel and Netflix. Jessica Jones proved yet again that you can have not only a female lead, but a mostly female cast and be a success. Jessica, Trish Walker, and Jeri Hogarth were amazing and the story was good as well. Unfortunately, not every show is perfect. Here are some of the good and the bad with season 2 of Jessica Jones.

The Good: Actual detective work

Jessica Jones used a lot more of her detective skills this time around. In season one and even in The Defenders Jessica relied on a lot of luck to solve cases. It was apparent in episode one that this would no longer be the case. Jessica spent a lot of time doing actual detective work like researching her clients, vetting them out, and going above and beyond to get photos of the people of interest. These are things Jessica would not have done in season one.

This showed a lot of growth on Jessica Jones’ part. She is still a self destructive drunk, but she seems to keep it together when she needs to. What makes this so spectacular is that she is doing it without the aid of her friends all the time. She still has to rely on them for certain things, but she is learning to be more responsible. Growth she didn’t have previously. Everything didn’t require a broken hand or a destroyed piece of property. For Jessica, that’s growth. Actually seeing her put pieces together on a wall for a case was shocking.

The Good: Family

Despite the fact that Jessica may not want a family, she has one. No matter how many times Jessica tells Trish Walker to stop digging into her path, she finds a way to keep helping Jessica. Jessica has fired Malcolm every day and every day Malcolm leaves and shows up the next day with a Red Bull in hand and her daily routine of clients. In fact, whenever she fires him Malcolm says, “See you tomorrow.” This is the first time Jessica has a had a family that cares for her.

Another cool thing was how Jessica Jones taught Malcolm in her own way. Malcolm would take notes and Jessica would say that she isn’t his teacher. But despite that, Jessica still made sure that when there was something that he needed to know, she taught him. As the show goes on you can see how much Malcolm approves as a P.I. While it took a while for Jessica to open up to Trish, Jessica eventually stopped being completely stubborn and started accepting her help.

When Jessica finally met her mother, it wasn’t an easy transition for her to accept her. Especially after Jessica finds out all the pain her mother cost her. But after a while, Jessica starts to turn into something we aren’t used to seeing. A person who cares. Great character development.
