We cast our dream ensemble to star in the upcoming DCEU film New Gods.

Coming from Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time, director Ava DuVernay will direct New Gods for Warner Bros and the DCEU. Created by the legendary Jack Kirby, the New Gods tells the classic tale of good vs. evil as it pits two godly worlds against each other: New Genesis and Apokalips.

With DuVernay leading the pack Kirby’s New Gods are definitely in great hands. Now,  since it’ll probably take some time before we know the official cast list, here are our dream picks to play DC’s Highfather, Darkseid and other New Gods. Starting with:

Javier Bardem as Darkseid

The supreme ruler of Apokalips, there’s no one better to play DC Comics’ version of Thanos than Spanish actor Javier Bardem. There’s a special kind of gravitas in the character of Darkseid that’s very hard to emulate on the big screen. But Bardem has what it takes to bring such character to life. And we don’t have to look far in his repertoire of films to prove it.

Last year Bardem literally played the biblical God in Darren Aronofsky’s Mother! Here, Bardem’s godlike demeanor brought the film to life by portraying God as a maniacal writer suffering through writer’s block. This same type of complexed artist character akin to Darkseid was portrayed by Bardem in Woody Allen’s Vicky Cristina Barcelona.

Those are just two films where Bardem perfectly fits the Darkseid character, but truly, watch any other of his films and you’ll be easily convinced he is the perfect actor to play the infamous ruler of Apokalips.
