Edgar Ramirez as Orion
Apart from Darkseid, Highfather and Big Barda, one of the most known New Gods is Orion. An immortal being with incredible powers, there’s been instances in DC Comics where Orion has killed the all-powerful Darkseid. For such a menacing entity, there’s no one better to play him than renowned actor Edgar Ramirez. Ramirez himself has played the mythological god Ares in 2012’s Wrath of the Titans, so the part of Orion suits him perfectly.
Apart from his earlier god roles, Ramirez has played several characters who express great leadership and strategy, all characteristics that are prevalent in Orion. These are roles like Simon Bolivar, which Ramirez played in The Liberator.
Let’s not forget that back in 2014 (via ScreenCrush), rumors around the interwebs pointed to Ramirez being in talks to star in Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange. Of course, the film released in 2016 and Ramirez had no part in it, but it seems he’s at least interested in being in a comic book superhero movie. He went on to appear in Netflix’s Bright, but here’s to hoping he appears in Ava Duvernay’s New Gods.
