Sam Wilson

Bucky Barnes holds the keys to Captain America, but Sam Wilson might be a step or two behind him. That’s Anthony Mackie’s character, who appeared in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Ant-Man and Captain America: Civil War. Avengers: Infinity War will follow, and while there’s no official confirmation, expect him in Avengers 4. Six movies could be all that Mackie appears in, but that can change.

Since Wilson’s debut in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, he aligned with Steve Rogers and became one of his do-or-die best friends, similar to Barnes. That continued through Civil War, by sticking at Steve’s side, fighting Iron Man’s group of Avengers, and going to The Raft.

The Infinity War trailer showed Wilson will be in Wakanda, the same location as Rogers. How he gets there remains to be seen, but it’s another case of friends sticking together.

Could loyalty be what moves the Falcon forward? If Rogers does not die but retires, he can hand the mantle to Wilson, for trust and consistently standing side-by-side. That could depend on Barnes’ brainwashing, and if signs of it return in Infinity War and its sequel.

Wilson, like Barnes, was one of the most notable alternative versions of Captain America. Will that become reality in the MCU?
