Pacific Rim: Uprising director Steven DeKnight wants to join the DCEU. Lucky for him there are a number of DC characters who have yet to be featured on the big screen, so here are few movies we think would be perfect for DeKnight.
Director Steven S. DeKnight’s recent film, Pacific Rim: Uprising will be an action-packed, visually stimulating rock-em-sock-em adventure. The sci-fi action film is expected to make big bucks like its predecessor ($411M worldwide). This will mark the first feature film that DeKnight has directed, and the $150M budget is easily the largest he ever had to work with. While the success of the movie has yet to be determined, a fan of DeKnight’s sparked a conversation amongst DC fans when asked the director about taking on a DCEU film.
The DCEU is in the wake of a transition period after a disappointing start to their Extended Universe. The major change started at the top when Warner Bros. moved New Line Cinema’s Walter Hamada over to oversee their DC Extended Universe. Of course, with his hire comes a lot of expectations. Hamada promised that directors would not have to adhere to a singular underlining plot, instead, they’d have full creative control over their storylines and characters. For fans of DeKnights, having him take on a DCEU movie should be exciting since he’s no stranger to working with superheroes — albeit on a lower level.
DeKnight most notable history comes in the form of TV where has written and produced for Smallville from 2005-2007, and he even directed the episodes; Ageless, and Justice. Additionally, he worked on another comic book hero show, this time it was for a Marvel hero as the producer of Netflix’s Daredevil. After officially making it big in Hollywood with the blockbuster, Pacific Rim: Uprising, along with his experience in the comic book genre — there are a few DC characters we’d like to see DeKnight bring to the big screen.
