3. Batgirl/Birds of Prey

Batgirl’s story is one that follows a bright-eyed intellect named Barbra Gordon. Her relation to Jim Gordon is a bit convoluted, but she’s a relative. nonetheless who shares his aspirations to do more. Well, after saving the life of Bruce Wayne she became Batgirl. Unfortunately, her association with the Dark Knight made her a target consequently leading her to become a victim of the Joker. After surviving being shot by Joker, Barbra would be confined to a wheelchair it would be at that point where she would adopt a new name. As Oracle, she would become one of the worlds greatest hackers. Under her watchful eye, unite two other female heroines in Black Canary and Huntress forming Birds of Prey. The group of three who stepped up and saved Gotham.

Just over a year ago multiple outlets reported that the DCEU would give Batgirl a solo run with director Joss Whedon at the helm. Fast forward a year later, and Whedon has dropped out and Walter Hamada hasn’t found a new director, yet. One of the reasons fans were excited about Whedon was the same reason they were disappointed in losing him — he’s shown the ability to develop a strong heroine. Now that he’s gone, the guy behind the camera could be Steven DeKnight. Like Whedon’s resume, DeKnight’s should garner just as much fanfare and excitement. In fact, just like Whedon, DeKnight has experience in developing strong female characters.

Though it was only for a short period of time, he worked alongside Joss Whedon on Buffy the Vampire Slayer from 2001-2002 as a writer before working the spin-off Angel. With Birds of Prey DeKnight could bring some of the same qualities that existed with Cordelia Chas who was played by Charisma Carpenter in the series Angel. Cordelia was started off as very shallow and over the course the series she was to grow into a hero in her own right. The style in which he was able to develop growth within a character should be a ringing endorsement for DeKnight especially with a movie like Birds of Prey.
