Avengers: Infinity War: Predicting the MVP against Thanos

3. Nebula/Gamora

In Infinity Gauntlet, Nebula plays a vital role while Gamora does not. After Nebula claims to be Thanos’ granddaughter, he torments her by suspending her in a zombie-like state between life and death. That seemed to incapacitate her, but she was still able to snatch the gauntlet when Thanos let his guard down.

She quickly becomes corrupted with its power, but isn’t able to wield it as well as Thanos. That gave Warlock the opening he needed to infiltrate the Soul Gem and cause disharmony between the gems. He then seized the gauntlet himself, truly defeating Thanos.

Gamora, meanwhile, gets erased when Thanos decides to kill half the universe. I’m counting on her having better luck in the movies.

But why Nebula and Gamora together, or at all? Mostly because it’s a compelling narrative. None in the MCU have suffered more at Thanos’ hands than Nebula and Gamora, whom he “adopted” as daughters and twisted into assassins.

Additionally, Nebula and Gamora may be the only enemies who can get under Thanos’ skin. He won’t forgive their betrayals lightly, and may torture both rather than just finishing them off. That’s rough on them, but it gives them opportunities to exploit distractions.

I’m also assuming it’s Nebula, not Gamora, who manages to wrest the gauntlet from Thanos. That’s actually why Gamora is on the list. Even though the MCU’s Nebula is less evil than the comics’ version, she remains ruthless and rage-filled. The gauntlet will still tempt her.

Only Gamora could convince her to undo the damage Thanos has caused – no more, no less – and surrender the gauntlet.

Though Scarlet Witch is arguably a more plausible MVP, Nebula and Gamora being the MVPs would nod to the comics while bringing a very human, relatable moment to the presumably mind-blowing, CGI-heavy finale in Avengers 4.
