5. Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Stephen Strange

Marvel took a big chance making a Dr. Strange solo film. Sure, the visuals of a Dr. Strange movie would be fun and trippy, but is it enough to sustain an entire movie? Absolutely not. After I left the movie theater, I looked at Benedict Cumberbatch the same way I looked at Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool and Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark. He was perfect.

Before Dr. Strange took the journey to become a sorcerer, he was an arrogant surgeon with no regard for how he treated people. After the accident took the delicate use of his hands, he used all of his money and resources to try and fix them. He had to beg, plead, and humble himself to become a better person. Cumberbatch portrayed all of those aspects of Dr. Strange flawlessly.

The magic is important, but the transition from arrogant doctor to sorcerer is the most important part of Dr. Strange’s story. Benedict Cumberbatch essentially played three different characters in Doctor Strange and do it smoothly. If that wasn’t enough, he was hilarious. Another great casting by Marvel.
