The Marvel Cinematic Universe had some great performances and some disappointing ones that highlighed movies or television shows.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been full of amazing performances throughout the years. Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, and Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson “Kingpin” Fisk are examples of some of the better performances we’ve seen in the MCU. Fans of the MCU movies are so used to great performances. Unfortunately, not every performance is great.
This list is going to highlight some of the worst performances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies and the Netflix shows. Things that I took into account were:

  • What they took away from the movie or show. Was their performance so bad it made the movie or show worse?
  • How much did they relate to the comic book? Did the actor take the role and make a mockery of the character?
  • How bad were they? At the end of the day, this is the most important.

8. Christopher Eccleston as Malekith

Thor: The Dark World might be Marvel’s most forgettable movie since the MCU was put together. Characters like Thor, Dr. Erik Selvig, Darcy Lewis (MEOW MEOW!), and (of course) Loki were enough to keep the franchise going despite the movies being very meh. Among those things being bad was Christopher Eccleston as the Dark Elves’ leader Malekith. Eccleston was noy believable as a big bad villain. It was difficult to look at him and see this dark leader or a ruthless and commanding villain. No matter how much he yelled at the end of the movie when he gained the Aether (Reality Stone) he just didn’t seem tough. He was just there.

In the comic books, Malekith is jovial in a dark way and has a very creepy smile to boot. Eccleston’s role was nothing like the comic books. Thor Ragnarok is a perfect example of how adding humor to a villain can make a difference. Unfortunately, he wasn’t and his performance was flat. As a lead antagonist, you have to be more than flat. Eccleston will go down as one of the most forgettable characters in the MCU.
