Who were the most important deaths in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Spoilers are ahead from Avengers: Infinity War.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is full of happy and cheerful moments. Tony Stark, Star-Lord, and many of the other characters have filled the MCU with moments of levity. The MCU is also known for killing off characters. I’m not spoiling anything by saying that Avengers: Infinity War had a death or two that made people jump out of their seats. One death in particular brought a tear to my eye. That said, Avengers: Infinity War isn’t the first MCU movie or show that has killed off main characters.

The MCU is known for killing off characters. Captain America: Civil War killed off Crossbones within the first fifteen minutes of the movie. The Warriors Three (Fandral, Hogun, and Volstagg) died in Thor: Ragnarok, and Ronan died in the first Guardians of the Galaxy. Not all deaths are created equal. Some deaths have a bigger impact than others. Here are the top five Marvel Cinematic Universe deaths that influenced the MCU movies or television series.

5. Alexander Pierce

First, Alexander Pierce is a very underrated villain. It may have been predictable that he was the one pulling the strings in S.H.I.E.L.D. for Hydra, but that doesn’t lessen his importance to the movie. Pierce was using S.H.I.E.L.D. to further the Hydra agenda. He was going to use S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarriers to destroy major target before they could become threats. Pierce also activated Winter Soldier (Steve Rogers’ old friend Bucky) to try and kill Nick Fury, Captain America, and a few other people.

How did this affect the MCU?

The death of Pierce was the end of Hydra. I’m sure there are other sects that are still floating around, but his death was like killing the head. and in this case, two heads didn’t grow back in his place. If Pierce didn’t die, Hydra would still be around and causing major acts of terrorism all over the world. His death meant the end of Hydra in a major role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. At least for now.
