15. Avengers Assemble!

Ten years ago, if you sat down and made a list of people who would never make the Avengers roster, Deadpool would be on that list. Probably behind Batman and he’s not even a Marvel character. Fast forward to 2015 and Deadpool is one of the Avengers. After an adventure in North Korea (that will be discussed later) Deadpool earned the respect of Steve Rogers.

After Rogers lost the Super Soldier Serum in his body and Wolverine died, Rogers needed someone with an edge to join his team. He asked Deadpool and he accepted. Here’s the best part, it worked out. Deadpool kept his goofiness in check and became a crucial member of the team. He was even a crucial part of stopping the events in Pleasant Hill. More importantly, if not for Deadpool, Red Skull would be ruling the world.

Red Skull had Professor Xavier’s telepathic powers and had been using them to try and rule the world. What else would he do? Deadpool to a brutal beating saving Rogue’s life. Without him, Rogue, Quicksilver, and the rest of the Avengers would have been used as pawns in Red Skull’s plan.

Deadpool’s run as an Avenger didn’t last long. Soon after Red Skull’s defeat (and Deadpool and Rogue’s makeout session), Hydra Steve Rogers used Deadpool to help him take over the country. It may have been a short run, but Deadpool can say he was an Avenger. Who knows, maybe he’ll be on their team again. As Steve Rogers says, “Once an Avenger, always an Avenger.”
