27. Weapon X Part 1

When Wade Wilson got cancer, he felt like his life was over. Wade went to Department K and was promised a cure for his illness. The icing on the cake was he would also get powers and become a superhero.

Unfortunately, Wade didn’t know how devious Department K was. Wade was given a version of Wolverine’s healing factor in an attempt to cure his cancer. After tons of painful and failed experiments, Wade was considered a failure and literally flushed to their failed experiments section. There, Weapon X’s Dr. Emrys Killebrew and Ajax (or Francis from the Deadpool movie) tortured and experimented on Wade. This was the first time the Cosmic entity Death visited Wade. After Wade found out Ajax’s name was Francis, Deadpool used it to provoke Ajax.

Wade continued to be a jerk until Ajax killed one of Wade’s friends. This trauma caused Wolverine’s implanted healing factor to kick in. Wade went on a killed every Weapon X employee and burnt the building to the ground. During his time in Weapon X, there was a list of odds of people dying called “the dead pool”.

Weapon X is responsible for a couple of things. First, they made Deadpool virtually unkillable and gave him enhanced reflexes. More importantly, they caused him to go crazy and for him to have the sense of humor that has made him both famous and infamous. His time in Weapon X both saved and doomed him. His mental state causes him to make all sorts of mistakes that have caused him everything from family to friends.
