Meta Lucifer
“Once Upon A Time” was definitely the right way to end the series. That’s not to say the season three finale was bad, though. On top of all the fun and the alternate timeline/universe plot, what really stands out about this episode is how meta it truly got.
Most of the episode took place in the Warner Bros. lot, where Lucifer is actually produced. Given that Warner Bros. is actively looking for a home for Lucifer, one couldn’t help but think of the episode as self-referential. The depiction of the various film crew on “Once Upon A Time” is almost as if Lucifer is saying “thank you” to everyone involved on the show, which only makes the episode even better and more heartbreaking. Especially since “Once Upon A Time” is technically the series’ final episode.

In essence, “Once Upon A Time” centers on the theme of choice and how certain people never truly stop being who they are no matter the circumstances. Warner Bros. TV has definitely made the right choice in keeping Lucifer alive and trying to find for it a new home. Here’s to hoping a network or a streaming service makes the right choice in picking up the beloved show.
