Mon-El and the Legion

More from Superheroes

Mon-El’s status at the beginning of the season was a mystery. When we last saw him, he had gone through a wormhole in space but didn’t know where this went. It turned out that he had been taken to the future and joined with the Legion of Superheroes.

While it was a painful few months for Kara, Mon-El had actually been in the future for seven years when he returned. In this time, he’d become a key member of the Legion and even found love once more with Imra Ardeen. Mon-El became a much better hero in the future and had matured a lot from the character we left at the end of Season 2.

This was an important arc for Mon-El. It allowed us to see the impact Kara had on him in their short time together and how much she had influenced the Legion. We also saw how much he’d grown up emotionally when battling his feelings for Imra and Kara. Mon-El will be missed next season, but he was given a worthy storyline to leave with.

J’onn and M’yrnn

Without a doubt, the most heartbreaking storyline of Supergirl Season 3 was that of the Martian Manhunter. J’onn discovered that he wasn’t the last Green Martian, after all, there was another — his father. After hundreds of years of solitude, J’onn reconnected with his father.

However, just as the two were becoming close once again, tragedy struck. M’yrnn revealed to Alex that he was suffering from a Martian form of dementia and made her promise to keep this from J’onn. Of course, it soon came out and J’onn was heartbroken.

This storyline was an extremely powerful one; it was incredibly well-acted and handled impeccably by the writers. As his illness progressed, the strain on J’onn became ever greater, but he soldiered on as any son would. It was fitting then, that M’yrnn gave his life in the season finale to save the planet his son calls home.
