Skyward comic to be adapted by the minds of Rampage and Lucifer

Brad Peyton (Rampage, San Andreas) and Joe Henderson (Lucifer) have joined forces to adapt the Skyward comic published by Image Comics for Sony.

Well, this is not the most affluent matches to spearhead a film adaptation of a comic book series, but here you have it: Brad Peyton, the director behind such blockbusters as San Andreas and this year’s Rampage, plus Joe Henderson, the co–creator of the Image Comics title – Skyward – and the showrunner of FOX’s Lucifer television series, have made an alliance to put Skyward on the big screen.

As first reported by Variety, Henderson, who is the writer of the comic series with artist Lee Garbett, will executive produce the film, Peyton is set to direct and produce with Jeff Fierson under the ASAP Entertainment banner – the production studio that is set-up by the latter two filmmakers under (eOne) Entertainment One.

Skyward is about a world 20 years from now like our own today except one uncanny difference: a lower gravity. Humanity managed to adapt to this type of anti–gravity phenomenon quite adequately. Born just after the event called “G–Day,” a young woman – Willa Fowler – is part of an ingenious plan to return gravity back to its normal state on Earth, which could lead to catastrophic results as the risks are for every sense of the word… high.

Described as somewhat of an “event” film that could surely whet the appetite of Sony Pictures’ chairman, the news was confirmed by the Lucifer showrunner on Twitter:

Obviously, Peyton is no stranger to producing adaptations of other media, neither is Henderson for that matter, having already produced three seasons of Lucifer for FOX as the character is loosely based on the depiction of the biblical deity from DC Comics’ Vertigo line of comics.

Peyton will next direct a sequel to San Andreas while Henderson’s Lucifer has been renewed for a ten-episode fourth season via Netflix after FOX cancelled the show after its season – or series finale (depending on who you speak to) back in May. This is a pairing that will hopefully lead to a worthy and high-flying spectacle on-screen.
