It’s common knowledge that Harley Quinn will be part of Birds of Prey. However, we don’t know the role she’ll play. Here are four reasons why Harley Quinn should be the villain in Birds of Prey.
There’s been a lot of talk about what we can expect from Cathy Yan’s Birds of Prey. In addition to Harley Quinn, Barbara Gordon, Black Canary, and Huntress are all expected to be part of the film. Fans of the trio undoubtedly want to see a comic book accurate depiction of the team. In which case, Harley Quinn’s name doesn’t belong. Still, Margot Robbie, Cathy Yan, and the DCEU are smart by making her part of Birds of Prey — just not as a member. Instead, she should be the villain — here’s why.
4. Movie should focus on Barbara Gordon
Barbara Gordon should be the central character in Birds of Prey, period. After all, she is the reason for the entire existence of the all-female heroine group. The core of the group is Barbara Gordon, including Harley Quinn would take away from the story. Conflicting reports suggested that Batgirl would be the alter ego that Cathy Yan would use.
However, recent reports explained that Batgirl would not be part of Birds of Prey. One can only guess that Oracle would be the featured star. The importance of Oracle can’t be overstated. The reason of the Birds of Prey existence is because of a tragedy she had to endure. Barbara was sexually assaulted and shot by the Joker in The Killing Joke.
The events of The Killing Joke left Barbara wheelchair bound but the scars were more than physical. The feeling of hopelessness and grief pushed her down a dark path. Barbara’s perseverance is key to her character and why she becomes Oracle. Barbara discovered her genius level ability to hack. With her newfound ability she worked to take down underground criminals and organizations. She worked with a number of DC heroes. In the process she recruited other heroines to help her find crime, none of those women were Harley Quinn.
