2. Black Siren’s redemption must come full-circle

While Season 6 wasn’t one of Arrow‘s all-time greatest outings, there were a few silver linings in there — one of which was the return of Katie Cassidy. This time, the Arrowverse’s first leading lady portrayed Black Siren — the Earth-2 doppelganger of her previous character. But unlike the original Laurel Lance, this Laurel had a dark side. However, this didn’t stop Quentin Lance (the father of Earth-1 Laurel) doing his utmost to find some good in her heart.

Siren’s redemption arc wasn’t perfectly executed, but it was strong enough to do both characters justice, and it appears that Quentin’s shocking death in the Season 6 finale will finally set Laurel on the path to redemption that had previously been teased. The Season 7 premiere trailer features Black Siren in some sort of a public role. Speaking at City Hall, she informs the press that vigilantes are no longer tolerated in Star City. And it leaves us wondering: What type of city official is she, and how did she obtain this role?

It’s possible that she has decided to fully embrace our Laurel’s life, becoming the District Attorney. This was teased last season, but not without letting us know that, unlike Earth-1 Laurel, Siren had no law degree. And despite whether or not the city allowed her to “resume” Laurel’s previous official role, it’s highly unlikely that she learned law in five months. However, she may have become the city’s interim Mayor. After all, her “father” was the previous mayor and “DA-turned-vigilante-who-was-presumed-dead-but-actually-kidnapped-makes-a-shocking-comeback” would certainly be a killer campaign slogan.

Whatever kind of city official she has become, it’s imperative that the show continues to highlight her journey and do right by the character. No matter which version of her we have, Dinah Laurel Lance will always be the second-most important aspect of a Green Arrow show and the writers must honor her (and Quentin) by allowing her to become the hero she is destined to be. And if public official is the first step, then vigilantism should be right around the corner. It’s time for this Siren to channel her inner Canary.
