5. Kara’s farewell party

Although many viewers were unhappy with the show’s random decision to insert Kara’s homecoming before the season finale, it somewhat made sense with the storyline — given that the team had prematurely defeated Reign and, for a moment, could relax. While this was clearly just a fancy way of dragging out the ultimate showdown between the hero and villain until the season finale, it did make way for this sweet moment.

As Kara prepared to leave Earth behind for a little while and return to her original home of Argo City, her friends and family held a farewell party for her in the D.E.O. The Girl of Steel raised a toast to everyone who helped her become the person she is now and this kickstarted a beautiful montage in which Kara shared some special moments with her family.

As she sipped champagne through Winn’s arm, she laughed with James and shared a toast with J’onn and M’yrnn. Meanwhile, she shared a sweet moment with Lena (who thought Kara was simply going on assignment) at CatCo. Finally, she hugged Alex as tight as she could before bidding her sister farewell as Mon-El waited to take her to her old/new home. After a trip in space, the pair then arrived at Argo to be greeted by an overjoyed Alura who hugged her daughter and welcomed her home.

This was, without a doubt, one of Supergirl‘s finest montages and musical sequences as it focused on the one thing that is at the heart of the show: Family.
