Season five of CW’s The Flash will give us a look in Caitlin’s past while the team adjusts to life without Harrison Wells. That’s cool, but here’s what we want to see from the upcoming season of The Flash.

CW’s The Flash is coming off a very compelling fourth season revolving around an intellectually gifted big bad. Clifford DeVoe. The genius bad guy with a god complex is known to fans of DC Comics as The Thinker. Because of DeVoe, season four allowed fans a glimpse inside of how smart Barry Allen was in ways that haven’t been depicted in seasons past.

Still, there was something missing from Flash that we hope will get fixed in season five. Here are three things we want to see more of in the fifth season of The Flash.

4. Barry Allen the forensic scientist

Lost over the last few seasons was the core of Barry Allen’s non-superhero duties as a forensic scientist. Last season Barry (Grant Gustin) was fired after being framed for murder so he couldn’t exactly work the beat.

However, now that he’s back on the force, The Flash should go into full-on detective mode. We need more storylines that feature Barry out in the field working his genius to protect Central City. Give us some corrupt cops and diabolical criminals that makes The Flash like a campy detective show. They have the talented Jesse Martin playing Joe West, a main character — they should use him in the field more often. It was something that worked well in seasons past. There’s another way to make that happen as well…

3. More metahumans of the week

Arrow will go back to its dark grounded roots and Flash should follow suit. Flash isn’t dark but they had a formula that worked. For a few seasons, fans watched the Flash take down a different meta every week. Similarly, season five should do the same. They have a team of capable heroes to take the workload off Barry who may be handling a case. With Caitlin Snow aka Killer Frost and Cisco aka Vibe, there are enough super-powered heroes to handle metahumans. Of course, that doesn’t mean there can’t always be a big bad.
