Mutants will be welcomed thanks to Disney’s preponderant pockets that allowed them to obtain the rights to Marvel’s X-Men and Fantastic Four. We discuss five things we don’t want to see happen with Disney’s new acquisitions.
They hype surrounding the Disney/Fox buyout has comic book fans hyped. The rumors started back in 2017 when multiple sites reported Fox was selling some of its properties. Naturally, the first thought on the minds of comic book movie and comic fans was the possibility of Disney/Marvel obtaining the rights to the X-Men and Fantastic Four among others. We all have ideas of what Disney should do but here are five things we absolutely don’t need to happen.
5. Black Panther and Storm wedding
Marvel fans remember the time when T’Challa and Ororo Munroe got married in the comics. So, when the inevitable Disney trump happened some fans were excited about the possibility. However, the truth is, the marriage didn’t go over very well. Although it lasted a while, they were know Spider-Man and Mary Jane. Something about them didn’t fit, and the entire marriage felt like a side story. And, it was, considering Marvel’s Civil War was the headline comic.
Additionally, Storm appeared more in love with Black Panther while he was nonchalant about their relationship. There was also the fact that Black Panther annulled their marriage. This happened after Storm failed to protect Wakanda from the crazed Namor who flooded their nation. T’Challa was ready to go in on his wife but Storm wasn’t willing to fight her husband.
The arc was a disaster that didn’t amount to anything more than cringe-worthy moments, especially for T’Challa and made Storm look weak. Of course that’s a testament to the writers, not the characters themselves. While there’s a chance for Disney/Marvel to right the wrongs of the comics — we rather them not. Plus, many Marvel fans will agree that Bishop is a better companion for Storm. Let’s keep Storm and Black Panther away from each other.
