Five Spider-Man villains Sony could use in their movies.

What do Venom, Kraven the Hunter, Morbius, Black Cat, and Silver Sable all have in common? First, they’re all villains associated with Spider-Man. They’re also all movie projects created by Sony. Venom premiers in October of 2018, the Black Cat and Silver Sable movie (Silver and Black) is in a rewrite phase, and Morbius will be starring Oscar winner Jared Leto. The weirdest part of Sony making these movies is that it looks like Spider-Man won’t be a part of any of them.

There has been a good amount of criticism from Spider-Man fans about these movies not involving the hero these villains typically fight. Nevertheless, these movies will happen. I think fans should be a lot more open to the idea of these movies. I’ll be the first to admit I was against the Venom project. The teaser and the first trailer didn’t fill me with hope, however, the most recent trailer looks amazing. It led me to believe that there are other heroes in the Spider-Man lore that could carry a solo movie without your favorite wall-crawler.

Mac Gargan

Before you dismiss this entire article based on this one selection, there are some great reasons why this works. First off, yes, everyone laughs at Mac Gargan. He’s the Scorpion. A B-list villain who never really accomplished much. So much so that when Spider-Man was explaining who he was he said, “He throws his butt at you.” This wasn’t always the case.

Mac used to be a private investigator until he was foolish enough to let himself be experimented on with something that hadn’t been fully tested. This augmented him physically but destroyed his mind. Mac became the Scorpion and never left his life of crime.

Another reason Mac Gargan works is due to his eventual connection to Venom. In Marvel Knights Spider-Man, Mac becomes Venom after Eddie Brock sells the suit (to someone the Symbiote eventually rejects and kills). Mac goes on to become a Thunderbolt and one of Norman Osborn’s Avengers. He may not be the smartest knife in the drawer, but he definitely has potential if done properly. Also, it appears that Mac Gargan might be getting the Ultimate Universe treatment where he’s infinitely tougher and scarier.
