DCEU: Four reasons a Supergirl movie should be a Man of Steel prequel
Now that a Supergirl film is on the table — we’ll explore how she fits into the DCEU.
A few days ago DC fans received some major news. Reports surfaced that Walter Hamada tapped 22 Jump Street writer, Oren Uziel to pen the script for a Supergirl film. If you haven’t read already, Supergirl aka Kara Zor-El is from Argo city on the planet Krypton. The impending demise of Krypton forced her parents to send their teenage daughter to earth. Kara’s pod crash-landed in Russia where her story began. There are a few elements from the comics that would make for a great movie.
The CW hit series, Supergirl, starring Melissa Benoist does so excellently, but Uziel’s version can be different. Additionally, there are some moving parts that currently exist in the DCEU that Uziel can use to connect Supergirl to the already established universe — here’s why he should.
4. Supergirl already exists in the DCEU
In Man of Steel, Clark Kent did not become Superman until adulthood. He traveled the world secretly committing hero acts. Unbeknownst to him, there was a ship that crash landed thousands of years ago. He finds it and learns of his true heritage and the demise of the world. Of course, Zod steals it where it crashes in Metropolis. For years, fans wondered what the pod was in Man of Steel. After all, Debrah Snyder pointed out the empty pod and its vague significance back in 2015.
"“You know what’s interesting, and I don’t know and I’m not going to say what it means or anything, but the one thing if you look closely when Henry’s going through the Fortress of Solitude there’s an empty… you know all the bodies… the pods? There’s an empty pod. I’m not going to say what, or if, it means anything but there is an empty pod there.”"
Moreover, Zack Synder revealed that his vision for the pod was “something more,” than Supergirl. And for Uziel, it could be too. Uziel could use MoS as a launchpad or bass to tell his Supergirl story. The ship Clark finds crash landed in Ellesmere Island, Canada. We know Clark finds it and the pod abandoned so why not have this be a telltale to Kara’s arrival on earth. The idea makes too much sense and it’s the perfect opportunity to make Supergirl a Man of Steel prequel. Besides. there’s some great source material thanks to Snyder, David Goyer, and Geoff Johns.
