2. A different type of superpowered hero

The DCEU is slowly figuring out its identity under new leadership with Walter Hamada. The dark mature tone that exists in the DCEU gave fans something different and it doesn’t appear that Hamada will change that. Another hidden gem that vastly separated the DCEU was Wonder Woman.

Patty Jenkins’ film was the first ever female-focused superhero film and it explored all the qualities that you expect from an iconic hero. Jenkins was undoubtedly capitalized off the exerts Allan Heinberg’s writing that highlighted the core strengths of one of DC’s most iconic heroes. And it mattered that she was a female hero.

Hamada understands the importance of inclusion so it’s safe to say the success of Wonder Woman and the empowering movement pushed Birds of Prey to the forefront. The same thing can happen with Supergirl who could give the DCEU a teenage girl hero people can root for.

To date, there isn’t a comic book movie that features a superpowered teenage girl. Put that teenager in a high school setting and follow her journey in a way that they weren’t able to with a young Clark Kent. Kara’s natural ambitious, joyful optimistic personality could act as a contagion for the DCEU. And, it could lead to a different, youth movement that follows other teenage superheroes. Maybe even a Young Justice movie — a guy can dream.
