Birds of Prey is looking to cast a biracial actress to Black Canary — we have 10 talented actresses who’ll make the perfect Dinah Lance

Is there any DCEU currently in production more exciting than Birds of Prey? We doubt it.  The combination of a script written by Christina Hudson directed by Cathy Yan and produced by Margot Robbie is a recipe for awesomeness. Birds of Prey brings something unique as the first comic book movie to feature an all-female cast of heroes.

Furthermore, Robbie expressed interest in Birds of Prey being diverse and she’ll get her wish. The film is expected to cast an actress of East Asian descent for Casandra Cain. Additionally, according to Heroic Hollywood, Birds of Prey is looking to cast a bi-racial actress to play Black Canary.

"“While an actress has yet to be cast in the role of Black Canary the upcoming Birds of Prey movie… the studio looking for a biracial actress to play a world-weary Black Canary who has the ability to sing.”"

The added tidbit of information that suggests the studios’ interest in an actress with a singing voice in interesting. So we took it upon ourselves to compile a list of biracial actresses who can kill it on the mic.

10. Troian Bellisario

If the studio is looking for an unknown actress who has some chops to pull off the Canary Cry, this former Pretty Little Liars star can. With roles in PLL and Suites, it’s easy to assume Bellisario is nothing more than TV star. However, the 32-year old actress has appeared in a number of films. She stared in the revenge flick, Martyrs, Freed, and she’s set to star in the upcoming star-studded flick, Where’d You Go, Bernadette

9. Logan Browning

Browning is another fresh face potential star who would be a great addition to Birds of Prey. She’s a star in the making and would make for a great Black Canary. The 29-year old actress hasn’t played in many movies, in fact, it’s only been three. Browning is mostly known for her TV roles in shows like Summerland, Meet the Browns, and Hit the Floor. If you haven’t checked out the critically acclaimed Netflix series, Dear White People, you should. Logan Browning is fantastic as radio host Samantha White of Winchester College radio station.

8. Jessica Lucas

Fans of the Fox hit series Gotham knows that Lucas would make an excellent Black Canary. Her character, Tabitha Galavan is sexy, smart, and can fight. The reason Jessica Lucas makes the list comes from her role in Big Mommas: Like Father Like Son. In the Martin Lawrence comedy, Lucas played Haley a student who caught the eye of Brandon T. Jackson’s character Trent. One scene may or may not have featured Lucas showing off her singing skills — we’re rolling with the former. Lucas also has a couple of well received horror films Cloverfield and Evil Dead. It would be cool to see her continue in the comic book world in Birds of Prey
