Power Rangers movie from Hasbro: 6 things we want to see
4. The Green Ranger as the big bad
The first film didn’t explore the school much, so we didn’t get to see whether or not Tommy Oliver, the Green Ranger in the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series was an active student at Angel Grove High. Nevertheless, the end credit scene answered that question for us. At the end of Power Rangers, fans got a glimpse of an empty chair with a green windbreaker on it. The detention center overseer called Tommy Oliver’s name but he was nowhere to be found.
In the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series, Tommy (Jason David Frank) is the new guy in town who challenges Jason to a martial arts match Angel Grove High. The match ends in a draw, but Tommy cements himself as the mysterious new cool kid in town and the affection of Kimberly. Rita then granted Tommy the Green Ranger power and placed him under her spell to do her evil bidding. Tommy worked as the cool guy who pushed Jason and the Rangers to their limits.
The Green Ranger is iconic and will make for an emotional and physically challenging big bad. In fact, some of the same elements that worked in the show could work well in a Power Rangers sequel. Power Rangers should give moviegoers an in-depth look into who Tommy Oliver is.
