2. The Avengers

DVD Sales $116,128,678/6.1 million units
Blu-ray Sales $119,999,218/4.8 million units
Total Sales $236,127,896 /10.9 million units

Finally, it is here and what we were waiting for ever since the post-credits in 2008’s Iron Man. Phase 1 culminated in this, The Avengers. The MCU’s first billion-dollar film and certainly not their last. Surprisingly, it is one of the best selling Phase 1 titles for the MCU. How can it not though? The Avengers is the only Phase 1 title to be number one for more than a week on both charts. Selling over five million units and bringing in over $99 million in its first week on shelves.

The Avengers would go on to achieve many more accolades though. In 2012, it was the fifth best selling DVD, edging out The Dark Knight Rises by only 7 percent, talk about close. By no surprise, it was also the number one selling Blu-ray of the year as well. On the Blu-ray total year chart, it beat Batman here as well, but by 30 percent! Before 20123 began. The Avengers made over $192 million, selling over nine million units!

The Avengers is the number five best selling Blu-ray of all time! When the movie came to stores, all of the other Phase 1 titles got a slight boost in sales. Blu-ray and DVD combined, these titles combined picked up an extra $3.5 million for the MCU. Surely, the investment for The Avengers was paid for in full by the end of Phase 1.
