Review: Edge of Spider-Geddon #2 gives us Peni Parker

Edge of Spider-Geddon #2 gives us a look at Peni Parker’s life just prior to the big event. Here’s our spoiler-filled review.

People around town know that Peni Parker is the girl who lost her father. A new student, Addy, tries to make friends with her to no avail. She yells to Peni that people are afraid to tell her what they really think because her dad died. It’s harsh, but likely true.

For those like myself who didn’t know anything about Peni Parker going into this event, this issue covers the basics fairly quickly. We know that Peter is dead and that Ben and May are taking care of Peni. We also know she pilots the SP//dr suit, even though to everyone else it’s just a rumor.

Peni finds out that Addy is the pilot for the Ve#m suit, which wasn’t supposed to be used. However, things go horribly wrong and they lose both Addy and May over it. One thing that seemed off was the fact that Peni didn’t have much time to process that before Spider-Ham came to recruit her to help out.

The art is decent in this issue. At times, it looked a little off, but Alberto Alburquerque did well with getting across facial expressions and especially body language with Peni. The fight scenes did a nice job of putting the suits on full display, too, which was great to see.

As someone who wasn’t familiar with Peni before, I don’t think this issue is entirely necessary, but it is a good starting point with the character. If I had decided to just jump into Spider-Geddon once it comes out, I’d be a little confused as to who some characters were without Edge of Spider-Geddon. This is a decent primer to the event and we have two more issues left in the series.
